Students to parade through campus to spread a spirit of love and unity in the community.
South Daytona, October 18, 2018 – The Warner Christian Preschool will hold its second annual “Love and Unity in Our
Community” parade on Friday, November 2, 2018 starting at 9:30 am. All community members are invited to encourage
this effort by coming to either walk in or watch the parade.
The Love and Unity parade is the brainchild of Linda Hampton, Director of Warner Christian Preschool. “I was in a parent
conference and was sharing that when children visit the office because they have not made the right choices, we ask them
‘How can we turn this around?’ The phrase ‘turn it around’ came alive for me. I just knew that with all of the conflict and
the racism and the anger there seems to be in our country right now, we had to do something to turn around the negative
atmosphere.” Hampton started thinking about how to do something positive with the kids in the preschool that also
included the community. “I realized that love and unity are the most powerful weapons we have been given to combat the
hate and division in our community, city, and across our nation.” She came up with the idea to have a walk that would be
focused on positive attitudes and actions.
The Warner Christian Preschool will be joined by the Warner Christian Academy students and staff in support of this
event. The parade will be led by the members of the Warner Velvet Blues Drum Line. Warner Preschool students,
wearing special t-shirts and carrying signs encouraging compassion, patience, kindness, and forgiveness, will be followed
by the entire Warner Christian Academy student body from grades Kindergarten through grade 12. South Daytona Interim
Police Chief, Gerald Monahan, South Daytona Police Captain Mark Cheatham, and South Daytona Fire Chief, David
Giles, and members of their teams will be joining this community walk, both as a show of support and to provide traffic
and safety services.
The parade will circle the Warner Christian Academy and Preschool campus at 1730 South Ridgewood Avenue, South
Daytona. The route will start at the Warner football field and will continue North along Segrave, will continue East on
Bellwood Avenue, turn South along Ridgewood using the White Chapel Church of God front parking lot, and then turn
West to the roadway that runs down the middle of the Warner campus.
As the participants walk, they will also be covering our community, its leaders, and its first responders in prayer. Linda
Hampton is hoping that this parade expands in the numbers of groups and individuals who participate.
